With the mild winter that we've had I really hope that these are the last pictures of snow for the year.  But then again, I'm probably just fooling myself.

These two photographs were taken in the York County Historical Society in the 200 block of Market Street.  This section of the museum features several displays that depict what shops along a city street would have looked like in the early 1800s.

When I asked my wife what she wanted to do special for her birthday she said she wanted to go to Presque Isle State Park.

I was somewhat surprised at this because people leave Erie, PA in December, not visit it.  What could have turned out to be a bad move, actually turned out to be a good time and we had fun during our overnight road trip.

The Colorado Railroad Museum was started in 1959 in Golden, CO after the original collection was moved from Alamosa, CO.

This is Denver and Rio Grande 583, a class C-28 2-8-0. The 583 is the sole surviving standard gauge D and G steam locomotive.


 
Robert W. Richardson started the collection in the late 1940s. One of the most recognizable railroad station marques in the country is this one at Union Station In Denver, CO.


 
With the rear exterior of Union Station undergoing construction and trains stopping elsewhere in Denver, the only traffic the interior of the building sees these days are tourists and photographers.

It seems like the last week or so has been our monsoon season but I'm not gonna complain because we really ned the water.

I started off the week by running over to Prince Gallitzin State Park to drop off some papers at the Park Office.  After leaving the office, I drove along the lake to see what was going on.﻿


The stormy weather kept most of the sailboats in the main marina.

We left Hastings on Friday morning around 7:45 for a trip down to Port Deposit, Maryland to visit our niece and her family and to enjoy Maryland hospitality for a few days.﻿  We took two lane roads the whole way.

There are two art festivals that compete with each other the same weekend of July in Centre County, Pennsylvania.  Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts is held in State College and features artists from all over the country.  The People's Choice Festival is held in Boalsburg and features Pennsylvania artisans only.﻿ We spent Friday in Boalsburg.

One of the benefits of living in the woods is the almost endless variety of visitors that we get through the yard at this time of the year, like this Scarlet Tanager -- Piranaga olivacea.

Since I cut out some of the undergrowth at the edge of the treeline it is easier to spot the deer as they pass by every few days.

The crows have been hanging around the house for a couple weeks and we didn't know why.  We finally figured out we had two nesting pairs.  The closest was about 30 feet from the house 50 feet up in a pine tree.

I stopped to see a friend of mine while I was out riding around on the motorcycle.  I was about to leave when I looked across the street and saw this cat in a window and figured it was worth the time to take a picture. 

This hasn't been a good year for track and field meets in the area.  This is only one of five for the season that wasn't rained on or rained out.﻿

We are finally through all the April showers, but unfortunately they've been replaced by the May Monsoons. About the only crop that I think will do well this year are watermelons and giant pumpkins﻿.  


West Branch of the Susquehanna River at Mahaffey, PA.  From here you can canoe the whole way into the Atlantic Ocean.

With gas now at $4.85 per gallon I don't think I'll be out roaming to far from home for awhile.  Right now my plans are to only travel in the 7 counties that share a border with Cambria County, Pennsylvania.﻿

Prince Gallitzin State Park near Patton in Cambria County is the closest of Pennsylvania's 117 State Parks to us.  Glendale Lake covers 1,635 acres with a 26 mile of shoreline. It's one of our favorite places to spend time all year around.

Rather than follow the trail and find the train I instead decided to cut them off at the pass so that I could shoot them as they came towards me. The Hastings VFW Post holds services at three cemeteries and the Memorial located in downtown Hastings.  I left the house around 8 a.m. and was back a little after noon.
